About Me
I work for a small software development company in Nottingham UK, writing bespoke databases, spreadsheet applications or websites for a range of companies. This is actually more fun than it sounds, (although I'm not always successful at convincing people of this). It basically involves listening to a client describing their daily frustrations with some big, repetitive, time-consuming, fiddly task they have. Then I beaver away for a couple of months and deliver a tool that does everything at the push of a button, (in theory). I guess I must enjoy it, otherwise I wouldn't have been doing it since 2002.
The other part of my job involves software training. Teaching adults how to use anything in the Adobe Creative Suite or Microsoft Office Suite. This makes a nice change to get out of the office and communicate with human beings, rather than squinting at code.
In my free time, (ha!), I try and learn as much stuff as I can. Software-wise this covers the more graphicy-artsy stuff as well as the data-manipulation worksy stuff. It's great when you can apply the skills for something useful though. I've won an award for my Flash games, and I've done the special effects on a feature film some of my friends made.
I also have a cat, a flat and a ginger beard, although that's not relevant.
